I’ve often thought in general about how public domain projects we think about as benefiting all have have disproportionately harmed Black people and other people of color.

When my late partner and I used to go listen to music at Lincoln Center, he would tell me about how the neighborhood had previously been filled with Black and Puerto Rican people whose affordable housing was razed to allow construction. Just one example.

But I’ve never thought much specifically about the interstate highway system had such a systematic effect across the country.

Thanks for the article.
