I’ve observed that often one LGBTQ people don’t get pronouns right, it’s not because they don’t care about the pronouns. They do care, but they are deeply transphobic.

I help moderate some large LGBTQ groups on Facebook, with membership somewhere in excess of a hundred thousand people. It amazes me sometimes how many people can join a group with LGBT in the name and STILL go off about how trans people aren’t real, that sex is biologically defined and that’s the end of the story.

But they do. Sigh.

When they misgender people, they are doing it on principle. We kick them out of the groups when they identify themselves, but there is a disturbing sentiment running through LGBT communities, of which misgendering is a symptom.
