I’ve never seen any research on this, but when I lived in Germany, I saw far less open sexism on the streets then I was used to in the United States. I didn’t see men cat-calling women and so forth.

Anybody who’s lived in Germany knows there is something of a nudist culture there. The whole population isn’t nudist, not by any means, but in large swathes of the country, it’s impossible to walk into a park during the summer or go to a beach without encountering nude sunbathing and swimming. Then there’s sauna culture, which is common and casually nudist.

Public nudity is unremarkable in Germany in what are considered “appropriate” settings.

That doesn’t mean lack of overt sexism on the street is connected to the nudism, but it’s worth thinking about maybe.
