I’ve heard it said that mathematics is more properly classified as a branch of philosophy, even though it’s needed to do science.

That brings to mind my mathematician friend who made a bundle with his applied mathematics PhD helping petroleum companies figure out where not to drill test wells.

But now for fun, he plays around trying to prove theorems involving the mathematics of infinity, an artistic pursuit that seems far more related to philosophy than anything scientific.
