I've been following this, and it's a very strange, very sad story. The mayor doesn't seem to have done anything to shock the conscience. He apparently didn't hurt anybody or even try to.

Yet he killed himself over what I presume was an excess of judgmentalism in his community, much of it religiously motivated.

We need to do better than this.
