It’s very sad how our system seems to be set up to throw children away after they make a bad choice or bad choices.
It’s like we set up bridges and say once THIS one has been crossed, all hope is lost.
The boy my partner and I raised had crossed one of those bridges before we met him. He had been violent and was seen as fit for nothing but institutions and the system. I’m sure you know exactly what I mean.
By some miracle, with our help he ended up growing up fairly healthy and far more successful in terms of happiness and fulfillment than anyone predicted.
He didn’t need a second chance, he needed third and fourth chances. I think young people deserve those kinds of chances and I’m very sad that so many don’t ever get them.
