It's so encouraging to see the energy and optimism that Vice President Harris has so quickly injected into American political life.

For reasons good or ill, it seemed like almost nobody could get enthused about Joe Biden's candidacy for the presidency.

But now!

Grassroots political donations are surging, ordinary people are speaking out with enthusiasm and vigor, and women (and queer people like me) finally feel engaged and encouraged.

Kamala Harris is not my perfect candidate for president, to be clear. My most cherished ideals are more progressive than hers. Nonetheless, I feel like I can finally get behind somebody.

I think a lot of the nation feels that way.
