It's so arbitrary! You know, I was really surprised in my youth studying the Russian language. Russian itself isn't all that hard. It's a European language that shares way more similarities than we think, because most of us can't see through the coding of the Cyrillic alphabet.

I was delighted to discover so many familiar words. But they describe a culture that differs in significant ways from Western Europe, and one of those ways is color.

If you've ever seen the ultra masculine Vladimir Putin rocking a pink polo shirt, you know what I mean.

Also, blue is a feminine color, particularly light blue, which has its own word. And it's an anti-gay slur too!

I guess that just adds to the understanding that all of this gender coding is just arbitrary.
