It's quite apt that I stumbled on this story this morning with my coffee as I'm preparing to write an editorial for the Washington Blade. Starting a couple days ago, people began to become hysterical about the Trevor Project, an agency that does online and telephone suicide crisis counseling with LGBTQ youth.

They've been caught up in the ongoing "groomer" panic, which equates LGBTQ people to pedophiles.

The idea that not even the Trevor Project is off limits to this hysteria isn't just shocking. It's ... well, I don't know yet, I'll find the right word after I finish my coffee and start to write.

Your story shows how powerful the predator meme is, and how it can engage parents who quite rightfully would do anything to protect their children, even buying into myths with little foundation.

For the record, I have long presumed Lewis Carroll was probably a pedophile. I don't know where I first read that, but I took it for granted and had no idea that what I thought I knew was based mostly on nonsense.

Thanks for writing this.
