It’s quite a complex topic, apparently. I’m getting skewered by some gay men on Facebook for this story. They’re unable to see the homophobia behind the unequal treatment of gay and straight couples with respect to “making out” or romancing in secluded public spaces.

Mixed sex couples, according to police data, are virtually never harrassed, let alone arrested, even when the police receive complaints.

Gay men are actively targeted with undercover stings.

The inequity is plain, and judges often agree, throwing cases out of court, if the men can afford good lawyers.

Many can’t, and besides, throwing the case out of court only goes so far once local media have splashed names and mug shots all over town.
