It’s pretty interesting to me how mainstream press is reporting this story. They seem to mostly view it as a negative, as something that negatively impacts professional journalists. I suppose that’s natural, given the stories are written by … professional journalists.

I haven’t seen anything in the mainstream press about how some of Medium’s longtime, non-professional writers are hoping (while not of course wishing ill to Medium editorial staff) that this move signals a return to emphasizing what Medium does best.
