It's not so difficult to see the steps that can lead to something like this. Evangelical Christian educational institutions are already inclined to infantilizing young adults. They already tend to confine young adult students to campus. They already demand a strict, unquestioning sort of obedience to staff. They already tend to offer inferior instruction in mathematics and the sciences.

(I know this directly because of young relatives of mine who have attended evangelical colleges and universities.)

So, to take things just to step or two further isn't all that difficult, I guess.

The thing about traditional Christianity is that it's extraordinarily authoritarian. People raised in the religion like that. They approve of it heartily, especially with young people.
