It’s kind of astonishing that many Americans don’t know China is composed of dozens of different ethnic groups, with many individuals looking very broadly different from another. China is at least as ethnically diverse as the United States, if not more so.

And yes, even among the Han Chinese, people certainly look different from one another. The stereotype that they don’t has to derive either from laziness or intentional ignorance.
