It's interesting that the hellenized Mediterranean World Jesus lived in doesn't seem to have had the kind of public nudity taboos that we're used to. I'm not saying people habitually ran around naked in Jesus's world, but it seems as if public nudity was not shocking in appropriate settings, and not all that rare.

The people who will be shocked by your article, and I've seen one has already popped up in comments, will be doing what so many conservative Christians try to do so often — backfit their contemporary values onto ancient society and claim those values originated in something biblical.

That would just be boring if it weren't so sad.
