It’s interesting that the concept of hell like what modern Christians believe was unknown to early Christians.

Not only is the idea not found in the Bible, it is not found in other early Christian writings either.

Biblical scholars know that hell (and heaven for that matter!) were concepts that evolved slowly among Christians in the first millennium. Scholars can actually track that evolution by pointing to writings in which the concepts first appeared.
