It’s interesting how in the course of just a few short years Facebook and Twitter accounts have become an important and formal part of government communication. I’m fascinated by this peek behind the curtain at what social media companies are doing about transfer of power.

I’m also wondering about the national archives. Clearly, Trump’s personal Twitter account has become a functionally official one. And while the White House may have offered assurances that his personal-account tweets are being saved for posterity, I wonder if Twitter is also saving them.

Does big tech have the social responsibility to do so? I think few people doubt Trump & company would sabotage public records if it suited them, and given private industry now has become the conduit for much official government communication, do they take on added responsibility?
