It’s interesting how experiences can differ and points of view can diverge widely, even when they are all true.
Devon’s observations that gay men had stopped having sex were true for him, I’m sure. But others have pointed out that Fire Island and gay male spaces like it remained hypersexualized even at the height of the AIDS epidemic. Larry Kramer famously complained about that, and I witnessed some of it myself.
It’s interesting to me that Devon would have experienced things differently, and it’s instructive to once again realize that my own experiences are not universal.
I do hope for his sake, that whatever his perspective was, he found some fulfillment and joy in life.
