It's hard to believe Urvashi is gone. I didn't know her personally either, but I met her several times, and casually ran into her in New York City and Provincetown.
I'll never forget the hairs on my arm standing up with electricity as I listened to her deliver her address at the 1993 March on Washington.
For a while after that, it seems like she was everywhere, all the time. On TV, giving lectures, writing columns for queer newspapers and magazines. Just being an inspirational leader.
For such a tiny woman, she made such an enormous positive change in the world. When I saw the news of her death, I just was so shocked. To me, she's never stopped being that amazingly energetic young force of nature I knew in the '90s.
