It's funny how contemporary conservative Christians apparently just presume the Bible forbids abortion when it's totally silent on the subject. Some people think that's because abortion is a new fangled invention unknown in ancient times, but that's not true. Abortion was known, written about, and practiced in the Hellenized Mediterranean world Jesus was part of, yet he never mentioned or even alluded to it. Neither did any of his followers in the writings that eventually became recognized as the New Testament.

One would almost think that was because they didn't care about abortion as a social issue. Which, well ... yeah, they didn't care. Makes you wonder why so many contemporary Christians do.
