It's cool how wise the Japanese were to recognize that Christianity tolerates and has often encouraged slavery. In fact, Rome laid down the intellectual foundations for encouraging slavery (and colonization) on religious grounds.

The Japanese well understood that resisting Western imperialism meant to some respect resisting Christianity.
