It’s astonishing how our conservative political class go to such efforts to stop people, particularly Black people, from voting.

Well, I should say it’s only astonishing unless you know a little history, and then like you demonstrate so well here, it’s just part of a long pattern.

The US (or at least the non-racist part of it) is counting on Georgia to help us out of the political mess we’ve got ourselves into. I hope we can recognize that racism played a big part in it and that we can be vigilant about access to the polls.
