It’s amazing to me (as a gay man who lived through the AIDS epidemic in the US) how many parallels exist in understanding COVID19 medical terminology and technology.

Rapid tests for HIV have for years combined both antibody and antigen detection, resulting in tests slightly more sensitive than specific, with the goal of picking up as many infections as possible while minimizing but not eliminating false positives.

I’ve been wondering about Covid19 antigen tests for a while, curious about whether they were in the pipeline.
