It’s a rough time to be LGBTQ if you happen to live somewhere dominated by evangelical Christians.
I think the greater problem we may face, though, is that while a large majority of Americans support LGBTQ equality, the Republican Party has managed to so thoroughly gerrymander themselves into minority rule that evangelical voices are over amplified.
Trump panders to them because he knows it works. He puts Evangelicals in power because he knows it gets him the votes he needs in key, gerrymandered precincts.
Just yesterday, we found out that Trump and his Evangelical Secretary of State have stopped our embassies abroad from flying the rainbow flag for Pride month, a tradition that’s more than a decade old.
That’s a signal for Trump’s followers. Keep voting for me, and I’ll have your back in your efforts to force your religion on those who don’t share it.
