It seems to me that pretty much everybody agrees industrial meat production like beef pork and chicken is bad for the planet and often bad for people's health.

But industrial monoculture grain and legume production have their very own serious problems and ecological consequences.

Anyway, I had to severely restrict my meat intake about a year ago for health reasons, so I've learned to eat differently. I get plenty of protein while consuming only very small amounts of beef or pork once in a while as a treat. I allow myself a little more chicken but not enough to subsist on.

I enjoy my diet, there are plenty of ways to vary it, and I get to eat interesting tasty things. It was a shock to the system, though. It took me a minute to realize I didn't have to center protein on my plate to feel satisfied and pleased with a meal.

I don't have anything particularly against these new commercial meat substitutes, but for me eating them would be about pretending to center animal protein on my plate. I'm not so sure that would have helped me get over the psychological hump to make dietary changes I needed to make for my health.
