It seems like the gun-crazed right won't allow any reasonable restriction on what they see as an absolute right for any American to own and carry any kind of firearm, even military-style firearms. It's jaw dropping.

I live in Michigan, where the last election delivered a Democratic legislature, giving the Democratic Party full control of the state for the first time in a generation.

One of the first laws the new legislature passed was a so-called red flag law that lets people report mentally unstable people who own guns, and gives judges the ability to remove weapons from people deemed dangerous to themselves or others.

The Republican Party here is having an absolute shit fit over that. Several sheriffs have come out and said openly that they will refuse to enforce that law.

These people are absolutely nuts. They're crazed fanatics.

It's hard to even try to understand how these gun nuts insist on leaving us all vulnerable to mass shootings.

But even though most Americans aren't down with this kind of bullshit, even though most Republicans support at least some sensible gun regulations, the Republican Party goes whole hog on the gun-nut ridiculousness.

A few years ago, Republican leaders were proposing red-flag laws instead of restrictions on assault weapon ownership.

Now they're acting like red flag laws are a tool of Satan himself.

This is one example out of many in which the Republican Party is becoming more fringe and extremist.

Something has to give.
