It is certainly not much ado about nothing. There is precisely no reason to believe that a lesbian teacher is damaging to a child. There is every reason to know that pulling children from a classroom because the teacher is gay is teaching them and other children that discrimination is perfectly fine.

Imagine parents pulling a white child from a classroom because the teacher is a Black. Everyone instantly understands that that is not acceptable because it is racism.

This is exactly the same thing.

Also, please note that the only activists involved in the story are the district superintendent, his staff, and the faculty and administration at the school – all of whom stood up against unjust discrimination and and against teaching children by example that there's something wrong with LGBTQ teachers.
