Interestingly, some studies suggest that people living with HIV who are in effective treatment with no detectable viral load live longer on average than the general population. The theory goes (the phenomenon hasn’t been rigorously examined yet) that since people in antiretroviral treatment have have more contact with health care professionals, with mandatory blood work once a quarter among other things, that cancer and cardiovascular problems are caught earlier and possibly nipped in the bud.
