Interesting, Zach. In the novel I’m serializing on Medium right now, my protagonist David is a very ordinary young man. In fact, his ordinariness stands out in contrast to many of the colorful characters he finds himself surrounded by in Greenwich Village.

Only gradually do readers become aware that not only is David a fine art painter, but an extraordinarily talented one who is narrating his story from 20+ years in the future after becoming very successful and well known as an artist.

He remains a very quiet, ordinary person throughout the novel, but one with an extraordinary talent.

I hadn’t really planned that, it’s just how I wrote it.

Maybe I hit on something good.
