Interesting that I ran across this just now. I had a lucid dream shortly before I woke up this morning. I was having coffee at home with my next door neighbor (which is not something that actually happens), when a cat who looked exactly like my cat, who was on my lap, came streaking indoors running down the hallway.
My cat and I chased after, and when we got there we realized the other cat didn't actually look like her. Only part of her did. But she was soaking wet from a pounding rain, pregnant, purring, and obviously about to give birth.
I felt terrible, and knew that I had to do something to help her, even as I realized I was dreaming and no problem truly presented itself.
When I woke up, I thought about my neighbor's two cats. They're not-quite-strays her kids adopted. They're the offspring of a feral mama cat who's been around a lot since the onset of warmer weather in the spring.
I've been really worried because winter is coming. It's almost here. And I don't like to think about those cats suffering, which is a possibility for the two younger cats and a certainty for the feral mama cat.
My neighbor and I have talked about trapping the mama cat and taking her to a no-kill shelter. It's time to get onto doing that.
