Interesting, Kristen, and a subject I find myself a little bit conflicted about. So, to begin with, I’m not a fan of rainbow capitalism. I don’t like LGBTQ swag sold at Pride events that turn out to be largely corporate -funded parties where people with beautiful bodies dance in fabulous outfits.

For me Pride is protest and visibility.

But be that as it may, celebration has a place, clearly, and we can embrace that too.

I just wish we could do it without filling corporate coffers. If no major corporations sold rainbow merchandise, I wouldn’t shed any tears.

But … what conflicts me is the idea that Target would exclude certain communities. If we’re going to have this merchandise, the idea that it’s not uniformly available unsettles me.

So there you have it. I’m probably not making any sense, but thus is the nature of internal conflict. Thanks for you story and for calling attention to this issue!
