Inevitable, eh?

Serious scholars of the Civil War could point out to Trump that the North came within a cat’s whisker of losing.

Abraham Lincoln came within a cat’s whisper of not winning a second term. Until very shortly before the election, everyone assumed he would lose to a candidate who would negotiate peace terms with the Confederacy.

North America came within a cat’s whisker of seeing legal chattel slavery of Black people continue for many decades at least, probably well into the 20th century.

That the war ended with Union is testament to both great struggle and to some very fortunate and timely events that were not at all inevitable.

And that’s just scratching the surface of the inanity of Trump’s position.
