Indeed, when the Rome Statute was being drafted and for years after it went into force, queer people who had been "liberated" from Nazi death camps were serving sentences in German prisons where British, American, and Canadian armed forces sent them instead of freeing them.

The idea that queer people are a recognizable human minority did not exist in most circles at that time. Times have changed. Now, all but the most reactionary forces take our minority, human status for granted.

Though, obviously, many on the right are pushing back ... pushing to categorize us again as deviant criminals instead of human beings with inherent dignity, deserving of basic human rights.
