Indeed. I talk very frequently with LGBTQ refuguees at a U.N. camp in Kakuma, Kenya. They want the world to know that Catholic bishops in Africa have blood on their hands with respect to transgender and gay people. I have not discussed this story with any of them yet, but I should. I presume they are even less impressed with Francis’s statement than I am.
