Indeed, and it’s impossible to read Josephus’s “in passing” references without understanding how his contemporary readers would have received those references.

His lack of specific sexual mention fits the sexual connotation. He didn’t spell it out, because the kind of language he used was exactly the kind of language his contemporaries used to describe male/male sexual attraction and behavior.

Indeed, if he had not been referring to sexuality, he would have needed to say so.
