Indeed. And even though I wrote and published this story the day Church Francis supporters blasted press releases all over the world, I was pretty much alone in my call for moderation in celebratory reaction. In fact, I got shouted down by tons of LGBTQ people and allies on social meda.

But, lo and behold, major media are now publishing semi-retractions, admitting their initial enthusiasm was misplaced.

But does anyone notice those stories? Not hardly? The RCC realized a huge propaganda coup with this misreported or exaggerated story. Millions of people now believe Francis and the Church hold fairly benevolent views about same-sex couples. The reality is that they are as determined as ever to exercise raw political power to stop same-sex civil marriage or the genuine equivalent in parts of the world where they have influence.
