In the United States today, in the Evangelical Protestant Christian world, we can put this in the present tense.
Evangelical Christians teach directly and without apology that wives are to be subject to their husbands and owe them (literally!) obedience. Teachings specify that husbands should not abuse their authority, but they also highly discourage divorce, even in cases of abuse.
The Southern Baptist Convention has recently doubled down on these teachings, coordinated with strictly enforcing rules against women exercising any leadership in church.
