In my writers group, we talk about “white woman tears” all the time, and not as a compliment.

How often do I run into white women who bemoan their lot while preaching a sort of faux tolerance that means NOT standing up for the oppressed?

How many times do I run into white women who describe themselves as liberal and progressive, but who urge people to just all get along, even when “getting along” means putting up with exclusion and bigotry?

With going along with a status quo that privileges them?

Too often.

Not to say all white women are guilty. Many of my friends and most powerful allies are white women. But I think you’ve hit a nail with your hammer here.
