In my somewhat limited experience, Jacub, disciplined meditation can lead to very much the same effects and conclusions, on if course it’s harder and takes much more practice to get there.
LSD works fine, but at least for me, the couple times I tried it, my perceptions sometimes became to 'muddy' to appreciate what I was experiencing.
Meditation is a little cleaner and clearer. The downside, of course, is the necessity to meditate every day for what can be a very long time before ever learning to experience that sort of altered state of consciousness.
