In a similar vein, I was very frustrated to see a person writing yesterday in an article on Medium why they will not vote for Biden because of health care.

Since Biden not on the record supporting Medicare for all, the writer is going to find some third-party candidate to vote for.

I don’t understand that kind of impractical thinking. The Democratic party has been trying for progress toward universal health care since at least Bill Clinton.

Failing to achieve it sadly reflects political reality. No politician could be elected and just wave a magic wand to make Medicare for all happen.

Real, practical, compromising politicians are going to have to wade in and get the job done, probably incrementally, a process Obama has already started.

You know what’s going to guarantee progress doesn’t happen?

Electing a Republican as president.

I want universal health care desperately. I know how important it is given I’ve spent much of my life self-employed. But I could never see making that issue or any other single issue serve as justification for standing in the way of the Democratic Party working toward progress.
