In a recent article, I drew a straight line between Benedict’s practically hysterical anti-LGBTQ focus and the fact that he was one of the bishops who covered up for and reassigned sexually abusive priests.
The Church’s sexual abuse crisis was the fault of Benedict, when he was Archbishop of Munich, and of many other bishops like him who enabled the abuse of children by not removing abusive priests from their roles.
Instead of accepting the blame for the evil acts that he and other bishops committed, he blamed it all on "the gays." He claimed that societal acceptance of gay people created the sexual abuse crisis and that the solution to the crisis in the Church was to root out gay clergy.
Talk about deflecting blame!
