I'm very frightened to see how religiously motivated the justices' decision was – and how clearly it privileges the views of a minority of extremist religious believers.

Mainline Protestant Christians are also prohibited by this ruling from practicing their faith. While the progressive Protestant theology of the value of the mother's life and health over that of the fetus is not nearly so ancient as the Jewish theology, it is no less real and no less mainstream.

As a gay man who was welcomed with open arms into my late partner's Jewish synagogue and community, I find the current Supreme Court's privileging of conservative Christianity to be frightening. I see what they've done with abortion, and I know what they want to do next.

The United States is not supposed to be a country where religious sectarians mandate public policy. But this court is not going stop that from happening.
