I'm used to occasional power outages up here in my very rural village, and when the power goes out our well pumps go out. We don't have a municipal water supply.

Fortunately, the village maintains a hand pump so people can fill buckets. A couple blocks down, a guy with an artisanal well make sure to put a hose out into the street when we have power outages. (An artisanal well is one where the water comes up to the surface under its own pressure and doesn't need to be pumped.)

People around here are self-reliant, but also depend on each other.

People in cities are a lot less used to having to do that, I would suppose. But it's nice to see folks coming together when they realize the need.
