I'm thinking about how a certain subset of gay men get angry (maybe more in the past than today) about dedicated lesbian spaces.
"What do you mean no men are allowed at (insert the name of popular lesbian bar) on Wednesday nights? Why, that's sexist! How dare they hate on men like that?"
As if setting aside a space and time for lesbians only were somehow depriving men of opportunity to ... something.
"Mary Louise," I might say to my mortally offended gay friend, "you've never stepped foot in that bar except that one time they did a fundraiser with a Liza-impersonating drag queen. And you left the moment the show was over. They don't hate you on Wednesday nights. They're just setting the space aside for themselves for a change."
"But it's not fair!"
"Honey, just open Grindr. A whole world of men revolves around you there. Just like in real life. You'll be fine."
