I'm remembering that I used to help out every year with a fundraising boat cruise around Manhattan for the benefit of God's Love We Deliver. My best friend Howie was one of the primary organizers, and he was a well-known downtown bartender. Other principals were well-known bar flies. Lol.

The party cruise itself was pretty much about overindulgence. We sure raised a lot of money to feed people living with HIV and AIDS, but it does highlight how much alcohol has sometimes centered in queer social lives and even our activism.

I suppose that's because at one time when we got together, we often did it in bars or otherwise around alcohol.

My body can't tolerate more than a couple drinks at a time due to a metabolic abnormality I was born with, but I've had so many gay friends who struggled with drinking too much.

Glad to see you writing about what works for you. Thanks!
