I'm really sorry to hear this news from Congo! The outbreak of the more severe clade is scary indeed. I took a pretty active role in the beginning of the European outbreak by publishing columns in newspapers read by gay men, educating about the risks and urging safer-sex precautions.
I sat in on some pretty contentious editorial meetings where we debated how to get the message out without increasing stigmatization. It wasn't easy, but I was really proud of how gay men in Europe and North America came together and worked hard to reduce transmission.
How tragic that would be if it was all for naught and we suffer through another severe outbreak because people won't pay attention to the less advantaged.
