I'm really glad my state (Michigan) finally banned underage marriage without exception. I followed the news about the legislation closely, and it was successful because the Democratic Party won both houses of the legislature, widely seen as a response to and rejection of abortion restrictions. Women voted in huge numbers to support their own rights, often irrespective of their usual political affiliation.
The ban on underage marriage is therefore a direct result of women voting. Before this year, the Republican Party opposed the ban. I don't really understand why. Frankly, I don't care why.
It's about time.
And it's thanks to women. Thanks to women voting in their own interest after figuring out that voting for the Republican Party just doesn't cut it.
