I'm curious, at 14 did you already know that the Wizard of Oz film and the ruby slippers were powerfully symbolic to queer people? Or did the film become a favorite of yours independently of that community perception?
I'm only asking, because we're about the same age and I'm pretty sure that when I was 14 I didn't have any idea Oz held such resonant meaning for many gay and trans people, or that Over The Rainbow was one of our anthems. In a way, I guess that song is sort of a metaphor of reincarnation. Because at least back then, "over the rainbow" did not feel like a real place we could go to be free and happy.
