I'm cooking for two, with the second person being an elderly neighbor who can't cook big meals. I invited her over, but she's uncomfortable leaving her house, so I'll just bring her a couple big plates with some boxed Christmas cookies.

I'm roasting a turkey with the traditional trimmings. Sweet potatoes, mashed potatoes and gravy, cranberries, etc. I'm going into town on Friday for last minute supplies, and I think I'll pick up a small ham too. When I was a kid come with used to do ham on Christmas Eve and turkey on Christmas Day.

When I was a young adult, my late husband and I started our own tradition of goose on Christmas Day. I'd like to do that again, but living out in the boonies as I do, finding a goose is pretty much impossible.

But I love turkey, anyway. So that will do nicely.

Happy holidays to you and Sophie!
