I'm a tad confused, because you say you reject biblical literalism and inerrancy, yet you go on to claim that theology must only spring from literally true, historical scripture. Isn't that like erecting a straw man just for the purpose of knocking it down?

I'm an atheist, so I don't personally care whether theology is "valid" or not, because to me the whole thing is just an intellectual exercise. But I certainly appreciate theology that isn't judgmental and nonsensical, like so much Evangelical theology is. (As a gay man an LGBTQ advocate, I have something of a dog in the fight, really.)

I'm a little unsure of why you, a person who rejects Biblical literalism, insists that Christians must be biblical literalists.

Like I said, at least passing strange.

My progressive Christian friends don't particularly enjoy Evangelicals telling them how they must construct theology, and I'm not sure why you think that you should tell progressive Christians that they're not doing it right.
