I'll never forget the time I interviewed a conservative Christian mother whose gay son attempted suicide twice. She didn't let go of her bigoted religious beliefs until the second suicide attempt.

That's how powerful this ideology can be. I imagine you have a hard time as a parent understanding that. I do too.
